Indian film critics and cine-goers think actor Aamir Khan is a perfectionist. He may or may not be it but what he definitely craves, and it is more than obvious, is to be seen as ceaselessly ‘doing something different’ so that he could be treated like someone above the rest.

His latest effort in that regard is a TV talk show titled Satyamev Jayate. After a couple of editions of the programme he is immediately being compared to Oprah Winfrey for the kind of socially conscious shows he is attempting (the first episode was on the touchy issue of female foeticide).

Watching the show gives a clear indication that Aamir K now wants a stamp on his personality which would confirm that he does not indulge in frivolities. Unfortunately the way he hosts the programme still makes him sound like an actor who is into schmaltzy stuff but does not want to show it. It is one thing to be a sensitive soul. It is quite another to wish to look like one.
