LAHORE, May 17: The Lahore High Court on Thursday acquitted a Christian couple in a blasphemy case and set aside the order of a trial court wherein they were sentenced to life imprisonment.

Mustafabad police of Kasur district had registered a case against Munir Masih and Ruqqaya Bibi under sections 295-B and 295-C of PPC in 2008. Complainant Muhammad Nawaz had accused them of desecrating the Holy Quran.

The trial court had in 2010 exonerated them from the charges under section 295-C but awarded them life imprisonment under section 295-B.

Justice Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi after hearing the counsel’s arguments admitted the appeal and acquitted the couple.  — Staff Reporter
