ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Water and Power Syed Naveed Qamar on Friday said the government had devised a comprehensive strategy to enhance power production and overcome the electricity crisis.

Responding to a number of questions in the National Assembly, he said 35mw additional power would be added soon from Iran while it has agreed to give another 100 mw power to Pakistan by December 2012.

A total of 10 projects of Wind energy are in different stages of completion. A 50mw wind energy power production projects has been started in Jhampir. And eight more projects having the capacity to produce 550mw power would be initiated by June 2012.

Another 100 mw project is expected to come on line by 2013. More than seven top wind turbine manufacturers including Vestas of Denmark, Nordex, Seimens of Germany, General Electric USA, Hyundai, Korea, Goldwind, Sunec, China are offering turbines fully backed by operation and maintenance period.

Besides, three hydro power production projects including a 56.2 mw project in Khyber Pakhtunkhaw, five in Punjab with 24.04mw capacity and a 30mw project is under different stages of completion in Gilgit-Baltistan, he said.

Furthermore, 10 small hydro power production projects having capacity to produce 142 mw power are also under way.

The experts have pinpointed 25 hydro sites in AJK, Punjab and KPK with cumulative capacity of producing 284.14mw power, he said.

Yet another 103 micro hydro projects having capacity of producing 15mw power are in progress in Chitral. While 250 more such projects would also be launched soon.

So far, eight letter of interests have been issued to IPPs for producing 211mw for solar power. Punjab government would also produce 5mw solar power.

PC-1 of electrifying 300 villages    through solar energy is ready while 49 villages (3000 houses of Sindh would also be provided solar power.

The net monthly increase in monthly fuel price adjustment remained Rs 0.14 kwh while an average increase in tariff for 2010-11 remained    Rs 1.07 kwh in the country. The reason was increase in oil prices, generation cost and appreciation of US dollar, he said.
