Muhammad Aziz Haji Dossa in his letter ‘Remembering Ruttie Jinnah’ (Jan 12) suggested that the land adjacent to the Jinnah mausoleum should be named after the then late first lady of Pakistan, Ruttie Jinnah.

Ruttie Jinnah no doubt was the Quaid-i-Azam’s wife but they remained separated for the last one year before her demise.

Quaid-i-Azam was no doubt a busy man and was unable to give her enough time that she deserved. But she should have understood his ambition.

Instead, she preferred to leave him. Dossa claims that Ruttie motivated Quaid-i-Azam towards greatness, in fact Ruttie was impressed by Quaid-i-Azam’s greatness before marriage as Stanley Wolpert mentions in his book, Jinnah of Pakistan.

Ruttie was a young spirited woman and loved him dearly. Jinnah took her as his wife after she accepted Islam and she was named Maryam.

The person that the people of Pakistan respect and cared for the establishment of Pakistan was Fatima Jinnah.

We must respect the sincere relationship of a brother and sister and name the area after the name of the great lady that was Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah.
