MUZAFFARABAD, June 9: Four people were killed and seven wounded in intense Indian shelling from across the Line of Control and Sialkot working boundary on Sunday, official sources said.
Indian shelling in Samahni sector in Bhimbher district killed Tanvir, 17. He was hit by fragments of a mortar shell in Gadhri Bandala village at 10:50am.
An official told Dawn that the teenager had recently shifted to Bhimbher along with his family due to indiscriminate shelling of Samahni sector villages by the Indian forces.
The boy, said the official, went to his village on Sunday morning to check the family’s belongings in their house, but became victim of the Indian shelling.
The official said that the shelling also damaged a house, owned by Abdul Karim, in Kalach village in Samahni sector. An unconfirmed report said a civilian was also wounded in the area.
Shabina Kausar, 16, was injured in Mandhol village in Hajira sector, another official said, adding the shelling in Abbaspur sector was continuing, but no more casualties had been reported.
Heavy shelling from 10am to 12 noon was also reported from Bhedi and Forward Kahuta sectors in district Bagh.
Officials in Kotli district said the Line of Control remained relatively calm in their area on Sunday.
SIALKOT: Three villagers were killed and six seriously injured in the Indian shelling on border villages along the Sialkot working boundary on Sunday, adds our Sialkot correspondent.
According to the official sources, the Indian security forces fired more than 200 small and medium-sized mortar shells on Charwa, Abiyaad Dogar, Kahliyaan and Theekariyal.
The shelling killed Noorul Islam in Charwa sector, Mohammad Din in Narowal-Shakargarh sector and a child Aslam in Bajwat sector besides injuring six villagers, including Bilal Ahmad, Mohammad Aslam, Fazal-i-Haq and Mohammad Aslam Faiz. The injured were admitted to Sialkot CMH.
The Indian security forces resumed shelling of civilian population and properties in border villages, including Chhumb Joriyaan (Gujrat), Bajwat, Bajragarhi, Harpal, Charwal, Chaprar, Sucheetgarh, Jammu, Akhnoor, Saamba, Zafarwal and Shakargarh-Narowal sectors, at 8.50am, badly damaging 17 houses and killing 13 cattle-heads.
Official sources said the Pakistan security forces responded immediately, killing four Indian armymen, destroying three Indian posts, six front-line bunkers and two big Indian defensive pillars in their counter-offensive.
The traffic on Sialkot-Kingra-Merajkey Road and Sialkot-Charwa Road remained suspended for the second consecutive day on Sunday due to the shelling.
