LAHORE: Police are investigating an incident in which a teenage boy allegedly drowned in the swimming pool of a private school in the city a couple of days ago.

The incident took place in a school in Sattokatla on July 12, where Saad (14) reportedly drowned in the swimming pool.

Quoting findings of initial inquiries, a police official said that Saad used to go to the pool to take swimming lessons from an instructor, along with his elder brother.

On July 12, he said, Saad went alone for a swim. Later, his family was informed by school management that he drowned after entering the pool.

The official said there were conflicting reports about the presence of the instructor at the time of the incident. He said the boy was shifted to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

He said the police are investigating whether there was any criminal negligence of the school administration or the trainer that resulted in the drowning incident.

The police official said they are trying to get access to the data of surveillance cameras installed in the school, besides using other ways, to ascertain the facts of the matter.

He said that so far, the victim’s family has not lodged any complaint with the police.

SUICIDE: A man died allegedly after he shot himself in the head in Green Town on Tuesday.

Waqar Ali (40), a father of two, apparently took the extreme step because of financial issues he had been facing.

A police official said Waqar shot himself at his home. He succumbed to the bullet wound on way to the hospital.
