LAHORE: At least seven passengers suffered injuries when they jumped out of a Metrobus soon after it caught fire here on Tuesday on Ferozepur Road near Naseerabad Station.

A police official said the bus was on its way to Gajjumata from Shahdara. As it reached near Naseerabad, a fire broke out in a part of the bus, causing a stampede like situation.

He said all the doors of the bus were closed when the fire erupted in the bus.

The panicked passengers broke open the windows and jumped out of the bus in a bid to save their lives, he added. As a result, seven of them suffered minor injuries, the police official said, adding that some passengers witnessed women and children in the front portion of the bus crying for help.

On being informed of the incident, the Rescue 1122 staff rushed to the scene and controlled the blaze that damaged a portion of the bus.

He said investigation was underway to know the cause of the fire.
