RAHIM YAR KHAN: All passengers of a Karachi-bound bus which caught fire on Motorway M-5 were evacuated safely on Thursday.

An M-5 official said the AC coach was on way to Karachi from Dera Ghazi Khan. When it reached between Iqbalabad and Zahirpir interchanges, one of its tyres caught fire which engulfed the entire bus at 5:18am.

The driver stopped the coach and immediately called the National Highway and Motorway Police. Rescue 1122 firefighters reached the scene and controlled the fire in five minutes but, by that time, the luggage of passengers was completely burnt.

In another accident on the National Highway N-5, a trailer crushed to death two brothers near Janpur Chowk on Thursday morning.

Khalil (35) and Rafiq (45) residents of Mauza Dufli Kabir Khan were going to tehsil courts in Liaqatpur on their bike. When they were crossing the road, a speeding trailer going to Multan from Karach hit them. Both died on the spot.

Their bodies were shifted to the Rural Health Centre of Khanbela.

In yet another accident, a van overturned near Sardargarh on N-5 when it was overtaking a trailer. Three people were injured.
