Books versus social media

Everyone, whether, young or old age, has a strong connection to media these days. Social media, in particular, has become very powerful and it can convince people more easily than books or printed materials. Now even small children know how to use mobile devices and social media, but they find reading a book more difficult.

A book is a very powerful tool to change the destiny of nations and people, but it is sad that now people are turning away from books.

Social media, on the other had shows a lot of things that are just lies and propaganda, and this can wrongly influence the minds of the youth. Social media can also put you in depression, but books bring you out of depression and open up your imagination.

I believe social media is important to stay connected to the world but books are better for our development.

Our superheroes

I would like to give a feedback on the article “Our superheroes” by Komal Ishtiaq, published in this magazine on July 25, 2020.

I really liked the article and also feel that we should support our heroes, who sacrificed their lives for us, while taking care of us in fighting against the coronavirus pandemic.

We have to support our heroes not just by clapping and singing songs for them. We should strictly follow the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to support our heroes, which include doctors, nurses, paramedics, police, army and others, in their efforts to contain the spread of the virus.

We need to take extra care on occasions such as Eid, Independence Day, and observe social distancing by staying at home and not visiting relatives or markets.

We should use masks before coming out of houses and wash hands with soap for at least 20 seconds as advertised on the TV.

Career choice

When a student completes matriculation, he/she is pressurised by their parents and relatives to opt for medical or engineering fields, but student’s own desires and dreams are ignore in this. And they are stuck in a state of dilemma.

And in this way, too many students fail to choose the right career and then they have to repent their whole life.

Everyone has different capabilities and interests, therefore parents should give their children a chance to show their talent and parents should let their children do what they are interested in doing.
