PESHAWAR: Pakistan Peoples Party activists on Saturday paid rich tributes to the party’s founding chairman Zulfikar Ali Bhutto on the occasion of his 41st death anniversary and vowed to fulfil his mission by serving the poor people and strengthening democracy in the country.

The party workers arranged Quran Khwani at different places and offered fateha for the departed soul of former prime minister ZA Bhutto. They also remembered him for the services he had rendered for the welfare of the people and democracy.

In this connection, one event of Quran Khwani was arranged at the residence of Zulfiqar Afghani and another at MPA Nighat Orakzai’s house where the workers in limited number offered fateha for the departed soul of the PPP founder.

Party’s provincial president Mohammad Humayun Khan said in a statement here that the credit went to Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and his family which rendered great sacrifices for the betterment of the nation, but did not succumb to the pressure of former dictator Ziaul Haq.

He said that Pakistan became a nuclear state due to the untiring efforts of ZA Bhutto who had also developed the historical national consensus for approval of the country’s Constitution. He said that late Bhutto was still alive in the hearts of the people.

Death anniversary of PPP founder observed

Mr Humayun said that the scheduled public meetings, seminars and corner meetings on eve of ZAB’s death anniversary were cancelled due to lockdown to ensure social distancing.

Party’s provincial general secretary Faisal Karim Kundi said ZA Bhutto struggled against landlords and capitalists and that he had nationalised banks, insurance companies and educational institutions.

Other office-bearers, including Ayub Shah, Zulfiqar Afghani, Zulfiqar Awan and Tariq Raheem, also paid tributes to the Bhutto family and said that despite trials and tribulations the workers still loved PPP as it had always fought for the rights of the farmers, labourers, students and working class.

They said that whenever the PPP came into power it gave jobs to the people irrespective of their political affiliations. They urged the workers to strengthen the party in their respective areas and take all possible steps for fulfillment of the mission of Bhutto family.
