ISLAMABAD: Promising young player Mohammad Shoaib battled past Yousaf Khalil in the fifth Serena Hotels National Ranking Tennis Tournament here at the PTF Complex on Thursday.

Shoaib fought back from a set down to beat Yousaf (4-6, 6-2, 6-2). In another three-set battle, Heera Ashiq came back from a 0-6 thumping in the first set to beat Asadullah in next (6-1, 6-0). Top seed Aqeel Khan had to face some difficulty to beat Barkatullah. After winning first set 6-0, Khan faced strong resistance from Barkatullah in the second, which was ultimately won by Khan on tie break 7-6 (7).

Also, second seed Muzammil comfortably outclassed Aqib Hayat 6-2, 6-3.
