KARACHI: The widow of a murdered professor on Friday said that she is getting threats as police have failed to arrest the killers of her husband and young son.

Moreover, she said that important documents and valuables had been stolen from their Clifton home, which was sealed by the police for investigation purpose.

Dr Fasih-ul-Haq Usmani and his US-educated son, Kamran Usmani, were murdered in their home in Clifton on Oct 9.

Speaking at a press conference here at the Karachi Press Club, the widow of the late professor, Asiya Usmani, said that despite the passage of over two months, the police had failed to unearth the killers and their possible motive behind the double murder.

Accompanied by her lawyer Malik Mazhar Husain, the widow said that all three police officers who had assured her that the killers would be arrested soon were transferred.

She recalled that her house in Clifton was sealed off by the police for investigation, but important documents, foreign currency and jewellery were stolen from there on Nov 5.

She said that a case was also registered at the Clifton police station, but the police failed to arrest the thieves.

“I want to know why my husband and son were killed,” said the grief-stricken woman. “My life is in danger and I am receiving threats to leave the country.”

However, she did not elaborate as to who was threatening her.

She demanded that a joint investigation team be set up to probe the killing of her husband and son.

She said that her husband was a retired professor of the Dawood University of Engineering and Technology who had also served in the Pakistan Navy. Her son, Kamran, had done MSc in human genetics from the US.

Her lawyer said that three police officers had assured his client that they had taken “fingerprints” of the killers and that they would be arrested soon.

He added that the grief of the family was compounded on Nov 5 when unknown suspects committed a robbery in their home when the police were investigating the double murder case.

Narrating the details of the case, the senior lawyer said that when Mrs Usmani had reached home in Clifton after a morning walk at a park in DHA, to her utter shock, her husband and son were lying in a pool of blood in the bedroom. They were stabbed to death with the help of a knife or dagger.
