HARIPUR: PML-N former MNA Babar Nawaz Khan has accused the local police of harassing his family during a raid at his residence the other day.

Talking to his supporters and mediapersons at his residence in Awami Bagh area of Kahalabat Township here on Saturday, he said a heavy contingent of police raided his house in the name of search for an absconder. He said the personnel entered his house from the backyard and harassed his family, including women, and the families living in the neighbourhood.

Nawaz Khan said the personnel also did not allow the residents to offer morning prayers in the local mosques as the entire area was under the police cordon. He said the raid on his residence had proved that the PTI government had started taking revenge from political rivals.

“But I will remain steadfast in supporting my party, particularly ailing Nawaz Sharif and his brother Shahbaz Sharif without any fear,” he vowed.

To a question, he said during the raid police could not recover anything illegal or any absconder from his residence, which was his moral and political triumph against his detractors.

Meanwhile, the police sources said a contingent raided the house of former MNA on the information that he had given shelter to Saeed Khan, one of his paternal uncles required to police in two criminal cases registered against him in Khalabat police station.

The sources denied that personnel committed any unlawful act policewomen accompanied the raiding team who behaved well with the families.
