LAYYAH: Six labourers were killed and 15 injured when a van they were travelling in overturned allegedly due to over-speeding near Chak 164 TDA on Friday.

Twenty-one labourers were travelling in a van from Basti Saaduwala to the Layyah fruit market. It overturned while taking a sharp turn in high speed near Basti Makhni Chak 164 TDA, killing six passengers and injuring 15 others.

Those who died on the spot were identified as Ghulam Fareed, Ghulam Hussain, Muhammad Rafique, Saifullah and Khadim, while Muhammad Riaz died on the way to hospital. The injured were shifted to Layyah DHQ hospital.

Five of the injured were shifted to Nishtar Hospital in Multan due to their critical condition. All the labourers belonged to Basti Saadu, Jaman Shah and worked at the fruit and vegetable market here.
