LARKANA: Speakers at a programme showered praise on the founder of Knowledge Centre and chairman of Larkano District Historical Society, Prof Mukhtiar Samo, for his selfless services in the field of education and history and promotion of literature among youth in Larkana.

They said at a literary sitting organised by the Larkana chapter of the Sindhi Adabi Sangat on Sunday night that Prof Samo would forever be loved for his unmatched services for intellectual uplift of society.

Ahmed Sultan Khoso, poet and additional commissioner of Larkana, said that Prof Samo was a selfless and indefatigable soul whose long, unflinching struggle and services for the promotion of education and literature were highly appreciable.

He had contributed tremendously to society through teaching, writing books for the guidance of students and establishing institutions that educated the youth and shaped their personality for attaining a prosperous future and playing their role in the general well-being of society.

Liaquat Ali Rajpar, writer and former director of information department, said that Prof Samo was a self-made person who was filled with unfaltering passion for spreading education and learning in society.

His more than three decades of efforts in the field of education had translated into success of many youths who learnt under his patronage and emerged successful in their careers. Many of his students could now be seen working successfully in higher positions in various departments in the country and abroad, he said.

Sarmad Chandio, poet and author of many books, said that society remembered only those people who worked for the emancipation and betterment of people. Prof Samo was one such person who had found answer to all problems in education and literature which he strived to spread far and wide and worked for the preservation of history of Larkana as well, he said.

Prof Mohammad Ali Pathan said that Prof Samo was a good poet besides being a prose writer and educator. “Many of us have learnt a good portion of his poetry by heart which depicts prevailing conditions and state of society,” he said.

He said that Prof Samo had always extended a helping hand to the children of underprivileged families and he had arranged for education of many street children and working youth as well.

Dr Ahsan Danish said that Prof Samo had a multidimensional personality. He was a dedicated and diligent person. Besides being a poet, writer and educationist he was an amiable and kind human being who was loved by everyone who met him or interacted with him, he said.

Prof Samo thanked the Sindhi Adabi Sangat for arranging the programme on his 59th birthday and said that he had made it prime purpose of his life to educate, enlighten and empower youth through education, literature and learning.

He said: “I established the Knowledge Centre with the sole purpose of providing a platform to youth of backward areas so that they can discover their potential, get involved in positive activities and become useful citizens of society”.

He said that his book Dunya joon darsgahoon (the world’s educational institutions) had given great inspiration to youth and introduced them to reputable world universities and higher seats of learning.

He said that the one who remained busy in good works and selfless service of humanity did not grow old but always remained young and quoted the maxim that “busy man has no time to grow old”.

Prof Jam Jamali, Aziz Qasmani, Mumtaz Lohar, Rizwan Gul, Zulfiqar Rajpar and Comrade Karim Baloch also highlighted services of Prof Samo.

Earlier, the birthday cake was cut amid loud applause by audience and Prof Samo was presented gifts of books, flowers and ajrak by the guests.
