LAKKI MARWAT: The residents of Takhtikhel union council ended boycott of anti-polio drive and showed willingness to vaccinate their children against the crippling disease.

The announcement to this effect was made after officials held successful talks with local elders in Shah Tora Takhtikhel on Monday.

The residents of the area had boycotted anti-polio campaign over power loadshedding and low voltage. They told the vaccinators that they would not immunise children unless authorities resolved their electricity-related problems.

The district health department launched case response anti-polio drive in 19 union councils of the district including Takhtikhel on Monday.

Around 499 teams have been formed to administer anti-polio vaccine to 119,858 children in the targeted union councils adjoining Bannu district.

Deputy Commissioner Jehangir Azam Wazir took serious notice of the boycott of anti-polio drive by residents of Takhtikhel and tasked officials to visit the area and ensure vaccination of targeted population at all costs.

The deputy commissioner also paid surprise visits to basic health units of Gandi Khankhel and Manjiwala and Category-C hospital of Naurang on Monday.

He checked the coverage record of children, micro plan, cold-chain and vaccine vials and directed officials to ensure vaccination of every child in the areas under their control.
