LAHORE: Inspector General of Police Punjab Arif Nawaz Khan has said the training courses have been upgraded in order to meet challenges of modern policing.

Addressing a meeting of senior police officers here on Monday, he said special modules about morality, ethics and public dealing had been incorporated in basic [recruitment] course which was a long-awaited initiative.

The IGP reiterated that training modules should be assimilated with contemporary needs in order to make standard of investigation equal to international practices.

For the purpose, he said, appointment of intelligent and skilled investigators and instructors must be done in schools of investigation.

The short-term refresher courses and workshops for augmenting efficiency of officials should be completed as early as possible.

He directed Additional IG (training) Tariq Masood Yaseen to constitute a short-term special training courses plan for officials, police stations and patrolling force under his supervision with creating awareness regarding public dealing, stress management, emergency response and moral grooming in training sessions.

The IGP directed to conduct these short-term courses for the force in all training colleges and schools in phases.

During the meeting, he asked the officers that lectures of motivational speakers should also be arranged for mental health along with physical fitness of officials.

In order to get rid of traditional and decades-old methods, the scientific-based investigation should be promoted and modern technology be utilised so that the [investigation] process could reach its final stage based upon proved evidences without any rejection and within a given time frame.

Keeping in view some complaints of the under-training personnel, he said instructors who exert undue strictness and reprimand officials are not acceptable in any training institution.

To address the issue, courteous and quality instructors should be appointed in training institutions, the IGP said.

Addl IG (operations) Inam Ghani, Chuhng Police Training College Commandant Fiaz Ahmad Dev and other senior officials were present in the session.
