Balochistan to plant 1.2m trees in 2019, says chief minister

Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Alyani on Sunday said that 1.2 million trees would be planted across the province in 2019, Radio Pakistan reported.
The chief minister, while speaking to journalists in Quetta, announced that a total of 250m trees would be planted in Balochistan over the next five years.
He said that the new Forest Act would also be imposed soon to promote reforestation in the province.
The chief minister urged citizens to actively participate in the plantation campaign.
The statement comes a day after Prime Minister Imran Khan launched a spring tree plantation campaign at Balloki, Nankana Sahib, and vowed to protect Pakistan's forests at all costs.
The premier had noted that forest cover in Pakistan was already very low as compared to the rest of the countries in the region, and said that Pakistan's forests should be protected at any cost.
"70 per cent of Pakistan's forests have been cut down in the past few years, which has created an imbalance in our environment," the prime minister had said.

Baluchistan is a huge rocky-desert of Pakistan which was once a dense Jurassic forest. Technology should be able to convert it back to its original form. Only water is required through appropriate means. No amount of expenditure should be too much for the transformation.

One cannot understand that with several of its districts facing drought, the capital city and other areas suffering from scarcity of drinking water, where from the worthy CM is going to arrange water for 1.2 million planted tree saplings to start with. Unless a well planned operation designed at usIng treated domestic wastewater or rainwater harvesting in urban areas by constructing underground reservoirs with biofilters having soil and vegetation toppings, to be used for irrigation purposes, this scheme will be a disaster and colossal wate of province’s meager financial resources.

@Z, We have great confidence in CM Balouchistan in bringing prosperity, and development of the masses poor people of Balouchistan.
Meanwhile the PM Imran program of planting trees all over Pakistan will only succeed if there is a monitoring program and also give incentives to people in the tree planting program which is extremely important for our future.
