ISLAMABD: A woman was killed and her husband injured in an honour-related attack on Monday.

The deceased, identified as Rahila Bibi, 24, was three months pregnant. Her husband, Zahoor Ahmed, was also her cousin, police said.

Police said the couple’s families opposed their decision to marry. When the couple married three years ago, Rahila’s family did not approve and threatened them.

Rahila’s sister was also murdered two years ago when the couple was attacked in Peshawar by their siblings and cousins, and Rahila was critically injured.

A murder and attempted murder case was registered with the Sharqi police in Peshawar after the incident, and one of Rahila’s brothers and a cousin were arrested. The couple moved to Islamabad following the attack.

The victims had been in Peshawar for a hearing in this case, and returned to Islamabad afterwards. Police said four people opened fire at them when they were walking to their home in Merabadi.

Both the victims were injured and the attackers, assuming they had died, fled. The victims were then taken to a hospital where Rahila was pronounced dead; she was shot three times.

Mr Ahmed was shot in the chest, but the bullet was removed and he has been kept in hospital under observation.

A murder and attempted murder case has been registered with the Ramna police in which Mr Ahmed has nominated three of his brothers in law and a cousin.
