BATKHELA: Seven new Pashto books on various topics were launched under the auspices of Thana Pakhto Adabi Tolana here on Wednesday. Poets, writers and book lovers attended the launching ceremony in a large number.

Speakers critically analysed the new Pashto titles and termed them a valuable addition to the treasure trove of Pashto language. They said that publication of books on different topics would enhance the knowledge of readers.

Noted poet Rahmat Shah Sail, who chaired the event, said that writers and poets always strived hard to promote Pashto language and literature without official patronage.

He said it was a good omen that every year a large number of Pashto books were published on variety of topics. He said that valley of Malakand was rich in producing literary giants.

District nazim retired Col Ibrar Hussain Yousafzai, who was chief guest on the occasion, said the most valuable contribution to the society was writing a book. He said that book reading created awareness among people and inspired them to discuss new ideas on various issues related to society, environment and peace.

He said the new Pashto titles would get attention of serious readers owing to quality contents.

The newly published titles included Maat Stori, Riasat, Khawro Da Zaan Sara Har Sa Khauray Krhal, Taanra Da Adab Zaango, Talee Raghlee Mataloona, Amail and Taar Taar Parhoonay penned down by Zarnosh Shahab, Mushtaq Ahmad Mastikhel, Shahbaz Mohammad, Fazal Mabood Sayem, Dr Sher Zaman Seemab and Zahida Muskan Khattak, respectively.

Advocate Hameedullah Khan, the patron-in-chief of PAT, said on the occasion that poets and writers had been contributing to society positively without getting monetary benefits.

He said that writers should be respected for their selfless services. He said that publication of so many books was a sign that a society had progressive thought.

Later, the authors were presented poetic tribute and were handed over commendation certificates. The lone woman poet, Zahida Muskan Khattak, was honoured with a traditional shawl in addition to certificate of appreciation for her bold poetry.

Prof Attaur Rahman, Prof Hameed Khan, Dr Alikhel Daryab, Mohammad Jamil, Dr Mazhar and Fazlur Rahman Shahid also spoke on the occasion.
