PESHAWAR: The Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has announced that the gas supply to all of Jamrud Road and its adjacent localities will be improved soon. The pipeline for the area will be commissioned by end of this month while 2.6km pipeline of 8-inch diameter for urban Warsak Road is also under consideration for approval this fiscal year.

According to a statement issued from the office of SNGPL general manager Saqib Arbab on Saturday, the Jamrud Road was previously being fed by a 6-inch supply line, which has been upgraded to a 10-inch diameter pipeline during the shifting of utilities process of BRT project.

It was stated that SNGPL was trying to facilitate its growing consumers and thus in the recent past the company had put in a lot of effort to resolve low gas pressure problems in Peshawar city, especially Nasir Bagh Road, Warsak Road and Kohat Road.

It said that SNGP’s Peshawar region was planning and developing gas pipeline infrastructure to meet the increasing demand of consumers. It is also striving to increase gas availability for lawful consumption by disconnecting gas pilferers in suburbs of Peshawar city.

Says infrastructure being revamped to improve supply

Gas-run generators, it said, was not only a major cause of gas losses in rural Peshawar, but was also putting undue burden on SNGPL’s pipeline infrastructure for which it was not designed. It has planned a major infrastructure revamping to meet the increasing gas demand of Peshawar city.

The statement said that Peshawar city’s gas need was being met by two feeding points, one at Tarnab and the other at Shah Alam, Charsadda Road. As part of this project, the SNGPL Peshawar region plans to bring in a third feeding point near Hayatabad Township, which will augment the gas supply to Hayatabad, Jamrud Road, Hayatabad Industrial Estate and Regi Model Town.

It said that construction of the transmission line from Darra Adamkhel had already begun and the expected completion date of this pipeline was June 30, 2019. The Peshawar cantonment is being fed by a main line which fulfil all of the GT Road’s gas supply needs before hitting Khyber Road. The SNGPL has laid 7.3km pipeline of 12-inch diameter from Sardar Garhi to Khyber Road independently for supply of gas to Peshawar cantonment. This pipeline has been commissioned, substantially improving gas supplies to all of Peshawar cantonment and Warsak Road as well.
