ISLAMABAD: Senate Chairman Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani on Friday underscored the need for overcoming the country’s trade imbalances.

Affirming Pakistan’s strong commitment to free trade regimes and open market policies, he, however, stressed the need to rectify the country’s heavily negative trade balance.

Sanjrani expressed these views in a meeting with Chinese Peoples’ Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Chairman Mr Wang Yang in Beijing.

In a message received here, the chairman Senate thanked the neighbouring nation for providing the balance of payments support of $2 billion.

According to a press release issued by the Senate Secretariat, Mr Sanjrani urged the Chinese investors to explore more avenues of cooperation and investment in Pakistan for which the government would provide all possible support.

On the personal invitation of Sanjrani, the Chinese leadership decided to send a high-powered delegation comprising businessmen and investors to explore possibilities of investment and to bridge the trade gap and increase imports from Pakistan.
