ISLAMABAD: A case has been registered against TV anchor Dr Aamir Liaquat Hussain on a charge of using derogatory language against prophets.

The case was registered with Aabpra police station on a complaint lodged by the imam of a mosque in Islamabad’s G-6 Sector.

The TV show, Sehar Aamir, was aired at Sehri time on June 5.

According to the first information report (FIR), the case was registered under sections 295-A of the Pakistan Penal Code (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings) and 295-C (use of derogatory remarks about the Holy Prophet).

In reply to a question about registration of a case in Islamabad instead of Karachi even though the programme was aired from Karachi, the officer said the TV channel concerned had its head office in the federal capital.

The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority had imposed a 30-day ban on Aamir Liaquat last month for uttering some objectionable remarks during the show.
