PESHAWAR: The Pakistan Peoples Party has sought support of Qaumi Watan Party so that their joint candidates can secure wins in the upcoming Senate elections.

A PPP source on Friday said a party delegation headed by Dr Soomro met QWP provincial chairman Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao in Islamabad and discussed with him different issues.

PPP provincial general secretary Faisal Karim Kundi, parliamentary leader in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Mohammad Ali Shah Bacha and the party’s Senate nominee Faisal Sakhi Butt also included in the delegation.

They discussed possibilities of success in the Senate elections and decided to continue the negotiation process.

It is to be mentioned here that PPP has fielded three candidates in the Senate elections, including Faisal Sakhi Butt, Bahramand Khan Tangi and Rubina Khalid.

Similarly, QWP has named Anisazeb Tahirkheli and Haji Ghufran for Senate elections. The party had 10 members in the provincial assembly, but Sultan Khan joined Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf and Ibrar Hussain joined Jamaat-i-Islami.

However, PPP’s strength in the provincial assembly has risen from six to seven when PTI’s Ziaullah Afridi joined it some months ago. The PPP has also sought support of ANP which has five members in the provincial legislature. PPP senator Rubina Khalid belongs to Peshawar and is sitting member of Senate, while Sakhi Butt belongs to Rawalpindi.
