KARACHI: The Sindh Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) on Friday approved 31 development schemes at a cost of Rs2.8 billion for the ongoing fiscal year.

In a meeting chaired by Planning and Development Board Chairman Muhammad Waseem, seven schemes in the Local Government Department and four irrigation schemes were approved.

Ten schemes in the Work and Services Department were approve, including improvement of old national highway passing through Ali Wahan Town worth Rs653.4 million.

Three schemes were approved in culture and tourism included protection, preservation and promotion of protected archaeological sites and monuments in Sindh worth Rs991.05m and construction of public library with auditorium in Kunri, district Umerkot at a cost of Rs63.7m.

One Auqaf scheme worth Rs299.5m was also approved which is focused on security of shrines in Sindh. The shrines covered under this scheme include Dargha Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar Sehwan, Hazrat Shah Latif Bhittai, Hazrat Sachal Sarmast, Hazrat Sakhi Abdul Wahab Shah Jillani, Hazrat Shah Yazeek and Hazrat Sakhi Sultan Manghopir Karachi.

Two health and one population welfare schemes were also approved.

One scheme in Home Department for the construction of 100 flats for prison staff at Central Prison Hyderabad at a cost of Rs101.13m was approved.

Two schemes were approved in the Public Health Engineering Department.

The chairman urged for the early completion of all schemes.
