PESHAWAR: The University of Peshawar Syndicate after two weeks of protest by students withdrew the decision of 10 per cent increase in fee for the session 2017-18.

The notification to this effect was issued on the conclusion of the syndicate meeting held recently. The syndicate also took notice of other demands of the students regarding transport and hostel facilities, scholarships and recognition of their degree.

The students of different political federations and societies under the banner of Mutahidda Talaba Mahaz joined hands and launched protest by staging a sit-in right in front of the administration block of the university on November 28. The students continued their protest despite a terrorist attack on the nearby Agricultural Directorate.

Ali Imran, media officer of UoP, told Dawn that the syndicate decided to take back 10 per cent increase in fee for the session 2017-2018 for all students. It directed the authorities that fee notification already issued might be rectified in light of the syndicate decision taken on December 12, 2017.

The syndicate also directed the finance and planning committee to identify area and heads of expenditure to reduce the budget deficit.
