Train’s bogie gutted

RAWALPINDI: A new bogie stationed at Rawalpindi Railway station was gutted in a fire that broke out at about 2:15pm on Tuesday.

However, none of the passengers or railway staff were injured.

A three-member committee, headed by divisional transport officer, was constituted by the railway authorities to investigate the incident and submit a report within a week.

A senior railway official said the bogie was stationed at parcel area as it was to be attached with Tezgam 8-down for Karachi on Wednesday when smoke started coming out of it at about.

He said the fire fighters of railway and Rescue 1122 managed to extinguish the fire after 30 minutes.

He said the SP Railway police had also been asked to investigate the incident to ascertain whether it was an accidental fire.

He said the inquiry committee would also calculate the loss; railway department had suffered due to the fire.

When the SP Railway Riaz Bosal was contacted, he said apparently the fire was caused by electric short circuit.

He said the Railway police would investigate the fire incident and submit its report.
