LAKKI MARWAT: A policeman and a proclaimed offender were killed in an encounter in Tortala locality in the limits of Lakki Marwat police station here on Friday, police said.

An official said a police contingent was sent to the rural area when authorities received information about the presence of wanted criminals there. He said the law enforcers were laying siege around the hideout of a hardened criminal when they were attacked.

The official said a police constable, Amanullah, received serious injuries and later succumbed, while the criminal fled the place.

“However, the policemen mounted a search operation in the areas located on the bank of River Kurrum and intercepted the outlaw identified as Taj Mohammad in Mangatra village,” he maintained, adding an exchange of fire took place wherein the PO was killed. The police official said the outlaw belonged to Bittani tribe of frontier region and his hideout had become a safe haven for criminal gangs.

Also on Friday, a man was killed and his friend injured in an attack in Naurang town.

Police said Laal Khan and his friend, Arshad Khan, were going to Naurang city on a motorcycle when they came under attack near the irrigation colony.
