LAHORE: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif says the project of the extension and expansion of the road from Thokar Niaz Beg to Hadyara Drain will facilitate the people in their mobility and the project needs to be completed with at a fast pace.

He was addressing a meeting through a video link which reviewed the project on Sunday.

The CM said the road project would keep a smooth flow of the Lahore-bound traffic coming from Multan and other cities. He directed the authorities concerned to take special measures and ensure quality and speed of the project in order to complete it before the stipulated time. He said the Punjab government had set a new scale regarding the acceleration and excellence of the projects and same criteria had to be followed regarding execution of this project.

Shahbaz also sought formation of a steering committee under the supervision of the Punjab minister for planning and development and the chief secretary for implementation of the project. He issued orders for effective alternative arrangements of the traffic during the implementation of the project to facilitate the public.

“The Punjab government has introduced the culture of working 24 hours on its projects and the same time schedule should be followed for this project,” he added.

The National Highway Authority (NHA) chairman briefed the meeting on the project.

Provincial Minister Planning and Development Malik Nadeem Kamran, MNA Afzal Khokhar, the chief secretary, secretary construction and communication, chairman planning and development and other officials concerned attended the meeting.
