KARACHI: Rejected Pakistan batsman Sohaib Maqsood struck an unbeaten half-century as United Bank Limited (UBL) ended their campaign in the sixth Cola Next presents Jazz Corporate Cup with an inconsequential victory over Brighto Paints on Tuesday night.

In the last preliminary-round fixture at the DHA Sports Club Moin Khan Academy, Shan Masood chose to bat first upon winning the toss and saw his team collect 137-5 in their 20 overs.

After a solid start, UBL were struggling at 51-3 before Sohaib took over while dominating a partnership of 52 with Umar Siddique (4). The tall Sohaib remained undefeated with 54 from 39 deliveries and hit four sixes and three fours.

Shan hit a pair of fours and one six in scoring 26 off 30 balls.

With both teams already knocked out, UBL consoled themselves by chalking up a 29-run success when Brighto Paints mustered 108 all out in 18.2 overs despite opener Tayyab Tahir striking three sixes and as many fours in a 24-ball 34.

Left-arm seamer Mir Hamza and slow left-armer Mohammad Asghar grabbed three wickets each while Mohammad Nawaz marked his first game after serving a month ban for his role in the PSL spot-fixing scam by taking two wickets.

Summarised scores:

UNITED BANK 137-5 in 20 overs (Sohaib Maqsood 54 not out, Shan Masood 26); BRIGHTO PAINTS 108 in 18.2 overs (Tayyab Tahir 34; Mir Hamza 3-25, Mohammad Asghar 3-31, Junaid Ilyas 2-15, Mohammad Nawaz 2-18).
