LONDON: Britain’s anti-EU UK Independence Party says it will promote social unity by banning face-covering veils and barring the opening of new Islamic schools.
The right-wing party on Monday unveiled what it calls an “integration agenda” ahead of Britain’s June 8 election.
It includes bans on Sharia law and on wearing face-covering veils in public, and a call for the prosecution of parents of girls subjected to female genital mutilation.
Whittle also said there should be a moratorium on Islamic faith schools “until there is far better integration of the entire Muslim community.” Green Party lawmaker Caroline Lucas accused UKIP of “full-throttled Islamophobia.” UKIP played a major role in Britain’s decision last year to leave the EU but is struggling to remain relevant now that it has achieved its main goal.
UKIP’s only lawmaker in the House of Commons recently quit the party. UKIP leader Paul Nuttall has so far declined to say whether he will run for Parliament in June’s election.

I don't like the idea of banning any dress. So few people choose to wear the Burqa here it really isn't a threat to society. So long as they remove it for anything necessary (in court, etc), then so be it. It's for Mosques and religious schools to teach about the appropriateness of certain dress not for lawmakers.

Full face veil is NOT Islamic at all. It is all cultural imported from old country. Even during Haj full face veil is NOT permitted. Moreover it is a security threat as male criminals can hide behind it.

It is a right step for a homogeneous society in that country. everyone is equal under the Law, there shouldn't be any difference in code of ethics among different faith, which should be practiced in private.

What Muslims and non Muslims need to understand is that when you choose to live in another country you have to follow the culture and customs of that country. You can still keep your own values intact by assimilating with the host country you have chosen. Religion is to be practiced in private not shown of .

All these people are just hiding their bigotry and trying to get their masters' kudos by attacking other people who are simply practicing their religion peacefully.
They just will not stop until they have their way.
They talk about social integration being the reason behind it. It will have the opposite effect. I know my wife will not even go to the grocery store any longer. She might even insist that we move to a country that has no problem with it.
At the end of the day that is what UKIP wants. They don't want integration.

@M. Siddique You are conflating two things. Hajj is a once in a lifetime event. You are right that women do not wear it at Hajj. But there is no forbidding of the face veil at Hajj. The requirement is that anyone wearing it even in an Islamic country if asked for identification purposes should lift it to prove identity.
The Islamic law, a.k.a Sharia is a very broad set of principles that derives its codes from logical interpretation and application of the logic and its spirit to a particular set of circumstances. Some scholars and jurists agree that the burqa is not necessary and other don't. No one has said that it is required because there are logical reason supporting both sides from the learned scholars. However for someone to enforce their personal will on those who want to practice it is small minded and radical just as the opposite would be labeled as radical.

@Khaled they go their to earn their livelihood. They pay taxes and they don't beg they work more than Britishers and heavy taxes. So they should be allowed what so ever they want to wear. As they come in Pakistan we don't tell them to wear dopata or burka the reciprocal should be there.

I do not know what is working with you people, every men and women should be allowed to dress freely, eat freely, live his life freely and follow religion freely. No men or women has a right to decide the lives of others. This also apply to the Muslim and Hindu countries who do not tolerate each others and want to force their religion on others.

The families who are more inclined towards their Eastern culture and prefer to maintain their religious dress code, should not migrate to UK. If they are already UK citizens, should return to their beloved homeland or try to adjust with law of the land.
