PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to provide free wireless internet (WiFi) facility at public sector colleges at divisional and district headquarters.

The decision was taken in view of the need of internet for academic activities for the students. The facility would be provided under the ‘open WiFi scheme’ of the provincial information technology department, according to a press release issued on Monday.

Under this scheme, free WiFi facility has already been provided to the University of Peshawar where the project is in implementation phase. The decision to provide facility to colleges was made at a joint meeting of the IT department and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa IT Board, which was presided over provincial senior minister Shahram Khan Tarakai.

The meeting also reviewed other ongoing development schemes and new projects launched by the IT department. The minister said transparency should be ensured in the project. He also proposed introducing the concept of smart classes.
