KARACHI: Top two seeds, Aahil Shah and Atta Abbas, were among the 16 players who cruised into the men’s singles pre quarter-finals of the Karachi Table Tennis Championship at Sindh Sports Board (SSB) sports complex on Monday.

Top seed Aahil first registered a convincing 11-7, 14-12, 11-7 victory over Hamza Ahmed in the second round and then sent Raza Abbas packing 11-3, 12-10, 11-6 in the third round to make last 16.

Atta, on the other hand, was home 11-2, 11-4, 11-8 over Bilal Alvi in the second round and then conceded a game before getting the better of Ali Shan 11-8, 8-11, 11-9, 11-6 in the next fixture.

The other 14 players who were through to the pre quarters include Faizan Laique, Hussain Verani, Kaif Raiz, Raheel Qureshi, A. H. Bhatti, Hamza Godil, Mehdi Azhar, Akbar Shah, Furqan Patel, Mehdi Raza, Farhan Hashim, M. Ali, Farrukh Kamal and Raheel Saleem.

The men’s doubles has reached the quarter-finals stage.

Meanwhile, due to enormous entries, the organisers have extended the event by one day and now it will conclude on Wednesday.
