KARACHI: Formidable Islamia ‘A’ chalked up a magnificent 3-0 victory over Essa Lab ‘A’ in the one-sided final to clinch men’s team event title in the Karachi Table Tennis Championship at Sindh Sports Board (SSB) sports complex on Sunday.

Tabish Khurshid put his team in front when he got the better of Atta Abbas 11-9, 15-13, 11-8. Aahil Shah, who had recently won a ranking event last month, consolidated the lead by inflicting 11-9, 14-12, 11-7 defeat on Raheel Saleem. Akbar Shah rounded off the final cruising to 11-8, 11-6, 11-7 victory over Farhan Hashim.

Essa Lab had also gone down to Young Stars in the women’s team final the orther day.

Noureen Farhan, who played vital role in Young Stars triumph on Satur day, completed her double when she together with Sadia won women’s double title.

The victorious duo carved out 11-3, 8-11, 11-13, 11-6, 11-5 victory over the pair of Iqra and Abeera in the agonising final.

Hareem Anwar and Iqra Saeed set a women’s singles title clash after registering victories over their opponents in the two semi-finals.

While the former was home 11-7, 11-3, 11-13, 12-10 over Haleema Ali, the latter cruised to straight 11-6, 11-6, 11-8 victory over Marium.

Meanwhile, the first round matches of men’s singles commenced on Sunday.
