KARACHI: The two-day trials to shortlist the probables currently undergoing training in the national camp, concluded at the Abdul Sattar Edhi Hockey Stadium on Monday.

Two members of the selection committee – Waseem Feroz and Farhat Khan – who watched the trials, have recommended the names of 40 players for the second phase.

“The names will be announced on Tuesday after getting formal approval from the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) president retired Brig Khalid Sajjad Khohar,” the PHF secretary Shahbaz Ahmed, who also watched the trials told Dawn.

He said a 10-day break has been given to players who will reassemble in the camp either at Karachi or Lahore.

Meanwhile, the selectors watched different combinations during the two sessions spanning one hour each that were conducted on the last day of the trials.

Some 60 of the 75 probables took part in the trials as around 15 absented after obtaining permission from the PHF.

The trials are being conducted to select a strong team for the twin tours of Australia and New Zealand in March in preparation for the World Cup qualifiers being held at London in June.

Besides featuring in a four-nation tournament in Australia, the greenshirts will play some side matches in the two countries.
