BAHAWALPUR: A girl was allegedly raped in Madina Colony on Friday night.

Saddar police station, on the complaint of the girl, booked and arrested five people, including a woman, under Section 376 of the PPC.

Police sources told Dawn that had called the victim over to her house in Madina Colony near the Industrial Estate. When the girl reached there, she found the woman and four men, including the main suspect, there. The girl alleged that the main suspect belonging to Rajanpur, who was under the influence, raped her, as the remaining people stood guard.

Saddar police claimed to have arrested all five and will also carry out DNA test of the main suspect.

Police also claimed to have registered another first information report against the main suspect on the recovery of a pistol and 26 bottles of liquor from his possession. Further investigation is under way.

QUACK: An injection by a quack allegedly claimed the life of an infant in Khairpur Daha village.

According to the police report, labourer Habiburur Rehman took his five-year-old son Idrees to quack Muhammad Asghar Shikrani’s clinic.

According to Rehman’s complaint, as soon as Shikrani administered injection to his son, the boy died. The parents raised a hue and cry and locals and shopkeepers gathered on the spot. On seeing the crowd, the quack managed to escape from the scene.

On receiving information, Dhoorekote police reached the spot and registered a case under Section 322 of the PPC against Shikrani, who could not be arrested till the filing of this report.

THIEVES: Kotwali police claim to have arrested three women thieves, while one of their accomplices managed to escape.

According to police sources, complainant Saddam Hussain stated that four women stole cash and a mobile phone from his bag while he was shopping in a bazaar. On his complaint, police chased the women and arrested three of them near Eidgah, including Rabia, Nadia and Sobia. Their fourth accomplice managed to escape. Kotwali police registered a case against the four women.

Witnesses and passersby claimed that the women were manhandled and bundled into the police truck aggressively.
