LAHORE: The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of Punjab police killed four suspected militants during an ‘encounter’ in Sheikhupura on Tuesday night.

According to a spokesman for the CTD, police received information that three militants belonging to the banned Lashkar-i-Jhangvi, along with their accomplices, were planning to attack staff and offices of an intelligence agency in Lahore. They were travelling on four motorcycles from Farooqabad to Sheikhupura and thence to Lahore.

When the CTD team tried to stop the suspects at the Sheikhupura crossing, they fled to a cattle market on the bypass and started firing on the chasing police team from there. An exchange of fire took place in which four suspects were killed, while three others managed to escape, the CTD spokesman claimed.
