QUETTA: Assailants gunned down a senior police officer in broad daylight in the Nawan Killi area on the outskirts of Quetta on Friday.

Muhammad Zafar Wazir, a sub-inspector of the Crime Investigation Agency, was on his way to a market near the Nawan Killi bus stand when two men on a motorcycle opened fire on him. The officer traveling with SI Wazir on his motorcycle was also severely wounded. The attackers managed to escape since the area was crowded with people.

Police rushed to the site and shifted the officer to hospital. He succumbed to his injuries before reaching the hospital as he had been hit by multiple bullets.

The body was handed over to the heirs after autopsy. No one claimed responsibility and the cause of the killing remained unascertained.

“We are investigating the killing of the officer,” a senior police officer said, adding that a search operation was launched in the area, but no arrest had been made.
