RAWALPINDI: Army Chief General Raheel Sharif on Tuesday reiterated the military's resolve to not let the "sacrifices of martyrs go to waste" and asserted that "the defence of Pakistan is invincible".

Gen Raheel was addressing the ceremony held at General Headquarters to mark the country's Defence Day.

The army chief also paid tribute to people of the tribal area for the sacrifices they rendered, including leaving their generational abodes, for the sake of Pakistan.

General Raheel said that Pakistan will pursue for peace in Afghanistan with sincerity.

"It is also necessary for the elimination of terror to strengthen our laws," reiterated the army chief.

"I want to make it clear to all the enemies that the defence of Pakistan already strong but now it has become invincible," said the chief of army staff.

He added that North Waziristan had become a safe haven for terrorists, but the army has successfully achieved the goals of Zarb-i-Azb.

"In the battle for our survival, we will take every step according to the teaching of Allah and His Prophet (PBUH)."

"We know how to make friends, but we also know how to payback our enemies," maintained General Raheel. "There are elements which are trying to create misunderstandings."

He said that the military "will go to any length for the sake of national security".
