ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday announced a Rs10 million grant as financial support for the family of famed qawwal Amjad Sabri.
In a statement released from his office, the PM also said the federal government will bear the educational expenses of Sabri's children.

"The Loss of Amjad Sabri at the hands of coward terrorists is a loss of whole pakistan. His contribution through promotion of love and tolerance all around the world is unmatched and unparalleled in recent times. People of Pakistan loved him and will remember him as a goodwill ambassador of Pakistan around the world," said a statement released from the prime minister's office.
FIR registered
Station House Officer (SHO) of Sharifabad police station on Thursday night registered a First Information Report (FIR) on behalf of Azmat Farid Sabri, against unidentified attackers of slain qawwal Amjad Sabri.
SHO Arif Razzak told Dawn the FIR has been registered under Sections 302 (premeditated murder), 324(attempted murder), 34 (common intention) of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and 7-ATA (Anti-Terrorism Act of 1997).
"Section 324 has been invoked because later on it was learned that a woman, identified as Mariam, stated to be a nurse, was also injured during the firing. She was a passerby who sustained minor injuries on her shoulder," said the police official.
Famed qawwal Amjad Sabri was shot dead on Wednesday afternoon in a targeted attack on his car by armed motorcyclists in Liaquatabad.
The 40-year-old Sabri, son of qawwali maestro Ghulam Farid Sabri, was heading to a private TV channel to perform in a Ramazan transmission when he was attacked, police said.
They added that the masked hitmen spared his companion, Saleem, who was sitting next to him.
The qawwal was laid to rest today in the Paposhnagar Graveyard, next to his father Ghulam Farid Sabri.
