KARACHI: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif telephoned his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi, just before being wheeled for his open-heart surgery in London, spokesman for India’s Ministry of External Affairs Vikas Swarup tweeted on Monday.
“PM @narendramodi receives phone call from PM Nawaz Sharif just before Pak PM is wheeled in for surgery. Wishes him a speedy recovery,” Mr Swarup said in the tweet.
Two days ago, Mr Modi had conveyed his best wishes to Mr Sharif who will undergo an open-heart surgery in London on Tuesday (today).
Notable personalities, including Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chief Imran Khan, PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and cricketers Abdul Hafeez and Umar Akmal have also expressed their best wishes for the prime minister’s successful operation and speedy recovery.
On the international front, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond too conveyed similar messages.
