KOHAT: The Fata University established in Darra Adamkhel, the Frontier Region of Kohat, would offer admissions on the basis of open merit, said Vice-Chancellor Dr Tahir.

He told Dawn that according to the rules laid down in the statute of the university, 2013, besides students from tribal areas pupils from any part of the country could submit applications for admission.

But restriction would be that they should be Pakistani nationals only, he added.

Mr Tahir said the university would start academic function in Degree College, Darra Adamkhel, from Sept 2016, using it as a makeshift camp.

The vice-chancellor said the Fata University’s building would be completed in a five-year time at a cost of around Rs4.5 billion, adding he had sanctioned Rs1.6 billion for PC-1 as initial grant.

Mr Tahir said varsity’s campuses would be launched from next year in postgraduate colleges of Khar in Bajaur Agency, Miranshah in North Waziristan Agency and Parachinar in Kurram Agency.

He stated that initially four subjects were being introduced and more would be added keeping in view the requirements, whereas posts of the faculty had already been advertised in the newspapers for recruitment.

He said the recruitment process would be completed during the summer vacations. The subjects which would be taught are computer science & IT, earth sciences, electronics and chemistry, he maintained.

Mr Tahir said 20 faculty members would be sent abroad for PhD to ensure quality education to students.

CONSTABLE KILLED: A constable was killed and another injured when a car hit their motorcycle near Jarma on the Indus Highway here the other day.

Officials said that head constable, Tariq Khan and constable, Wajid Khan were checking vehicles near NHA office when they signaled a car to stop, but the driver sped away.

Two constables riding a motorcycle started chasing the car, but the car hit their bike, knocking them down.

As a result, Tariq Khan died on the spot, while Wajid Khan was injured. The car disappeared after the accident.

They were shifted to KDA divisional headquarters hospital where the body was handed over to relatives after postmortem.

BODY FOUND: The police found a bullet-riddled body from Hafizabad area of the Kohat city the other day. The city police registered a case against unknown accused and launched investigations.
