ISLAMABAD: Several people were detained and many injured when police used brute force on demonstrators who, defying curfew and other restrictions, came out of their houses and protested against the recent killings by Indian troops in Kupwara district of India-held Kashmir.

Besides Kupwara, clashes occurred between protesters and police in Srinagar, Baramulla and Pulwama areas of Jammu and Kashmir.

An anti-India protest demonstration at Kashmir University in Srinagar led to the cancellation of minister's scheduled visit to the university, local media reported.

All Parties Hurriyat Conference Chairman Syed Ali Gilani urged the Kashmiris to safeguard martyrs' sacrifices by enforcing social boycott of India's collaborators in the territory.

He said “people who directly or indirectly supported the collaborators and perpetrators by participating in elections or favouring them must mend their ways”.
