TOBA TEK SINGH: Work has started on the passport office after a delay of about a year as the federal government had announced establishing the office here during the last financial year.

In first week of February, an already constructed building for the gym of the district council on Rajana Road was handed over to the National Database & Registration Authority (Nadra) by the district government to set up temporary passport office till the construction of the new building.

A signboard was installed on the road, mentioning the office which was to start functioning on Feb 28; however, it could not start work yet.

When contacted, passport office assistant director Muhammad Amer claimed some technical tasks had caused the delay at the start of passport office. He hoped that the office would start functioning after a week.

An insider, however, claimed that an official had got a stay from the Lahore High Court against the appointment of a junior officer as passport office in-charge.
