DERA GHAZI KHAN: A Rajanpur district administration team closed down the canteen of District Public School for unhygienic conditions and substandard eatables.

A team, comprising Executive District Officer Health Dr Fiyaz Karim Leghari, District Officer Health Dr Sadique and District Food Inspector Mohammad Akram, inspected the canteen and confiscated all eatables for laboratory tests.

On the complaint of the food inspector, City police registered a case against canteen contractor Abdul Hameed.

SCHOOLS SECURITY: Five schools and colleges of Dera Ghazi Khan got notices from the district government over poor security while one school was shut down.

Focal person for the security of the colleges, Professor Mazhar Hussain Gashkori told Dawn that notices were issued to three colleges to complete security arrangements. The colleges are the Inter College for Boys, Dera Ghazi Khan, Wahowa College, Taunsa, and Girls College, Taunsa.

Executive District Officer (Education) Shaukat Sherwani told Dawn the School of English Language and Management System was shut down for poor security arrangements and vulnerable building while High School Pir Aadil Jadid and High School Taunsa Sharif got notices.

PROTEST: Students of the Ghazi Khan Medical College continued their protest for the fourth consecutive days, demanding registration of their college. They locked up class rooms and offices of heads of departments in protest against the delay in recognition and registration of the college.

One of the protesters, Fiyaz, told Dawn that future of 600 students was at stake while a batch of 100 students had passed out without having a recognised degree of MBBS. Another student, Naeem, said students had met the Punjab governor for solution to their issue but all in vain. He said the government had ignored court directions regarding fulfilling of faculty criteria within the last month (January).

The Pakistan Medical Association and Young Doctors Association also participated in the protest by wearing black armbands to express solidarity with the students.
