KARACHI: Police on Monday initiated an investigation after finding a Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan pamphlet seeking ‘immediate closure’ of a primary school pasted on its main gate.

The school was closed down soon after the discovery of the pamphlet, as parents took away their children.

However, according to the Paposh Nagar police, ‘some miscreants’ pasted the plain paper on the gate of Govt Ghausia Girls and Boys Primary School situated in Nazimabad-4.

Security was enhanced at the school after the incident.

Karachi-West DIG Feroze Shah told Dawn that they did not consider it as a ‘serious’ threat to the school. The senior officer said that some ‘mischievous’ person might have pasted the pamphlet there. Yet the police launched an inquiry into the incident to track down the culprits, he added.

Meanwhile, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s senior director of education, Bilal Manzar, told Dawn that the incident took place between 10am and 11am following which they immediately closed the school as a precautionary measure.

“It may be a hoax or it may be a real threat. But it involved innocent students so we couldn’t take it lightly. Therefore, we immediately called parents to take their children home and closed the school for the day,” he said.

“That done, we reviewed security at the school. We have also written to Rangers and police to help beef up security measures there. Govt Ghausia Girls and Boys Primary School will be open as normal on Tuesday with extra security,” he said.
