Schools in Punjab closed till Jan 31

LAHORE: The government has announced closure of all public and private schools in Punjab from Jan 26 to 31.

“Due to extreme cold and requests from parents, all public and private schools in Punjab will remain closed from Jan 26 to 31. It’s an urgent decision to protect the students from diseases due to extreme cold,” EDO Education Pervaiz Akhtar told Dawn on Monday.

A source in the Punjab Education Department said that the government was not satisfied with many schools for their poor security arrangements. He said the government had directed them to improve security by Jan 31.

The EDO said colleges and universities would remain open.

Disease due to extreme cold? Over here its -14 and 8cm of snow fell, so everyone should have disease according to Mr Ackhtar. Sir stop the nonsense and tell the parents to bundle up their kids.

Public announcement made at around 11:30 pm. Extremely non professional and mindless act. The winter is there for many days now. Why cant the announcement be made not later than 7 pm at least so that maximum people can come to know. Can any govt official imagine the agony of millions of people who only came to know about it when they reached the schools or were about to reach

@The Outsider Temperature is -14 but you are enjoying heat in the room and schools are warm enough for kids. Its not same in Punjab where poor kids are handling the cold without any infrastructure or may be studying outside without any rooms.

Foolish decision. Provide schools with proper heating and students from needy background with warm clothes. Is the reason really this or security ?

What a farce , the weather has been the same for almost the past 20 days ,why was this not considered then. We had the same climate last year and the year before and so on , why was this not a practice then. 364 days a year and kids have only been to school for approximately 120 days. And we expect to conquer the world /terrorists with education.
