KARACHI: A remote-controlled bomb, weighing around half a kilogram, exploded close to a paan cabin in Lea Market, killing the cabin owner and wounding five others on Wednesday.

Quoting officials of the bomb disposal squad, City SSP Fida Hussain said the bomb did not contain pellets though it contained pieces of iron. The bomb left six people wounded, the officer said, adding that they were rushed to the Civil Hospital Karachi. One of them, 60-year-old Mohammed Saleem, died during treatment, said senior medico-legal officer Dr Qarar Ahmed. The victim sustained deep wounds caused by the pieces of iron and died soon after being shifted to the operating theatre, added the officer.
