HYDERABAD: Leaders of various nationalist parties and groups on Wednesday condemned the killing of Dr Anwar Leghari, a senior Sindh United Party activist, in a gun attack on the eve of the Nov 19 polling in the second phase of the local government elections in Hyderabad.
SUP leader Dr Dodo Mehri, Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz vice president Dr Niaz Kalani, and JSQM-Arisar leader Akash Sindhi, Sindh National Tehreek leader Ashraf Noonari, Roshan Burirro and others were speaking at a protest camp set up at Nasim Nagar Chowk where SUP activists observed a token hunger strike for the arrest of Dr Leghari’s killers.
Pakistan Muslim League-Functional leader Afzal Gujjar, Awami Workers Party activist Bukhshal Thallu and others also visited the camp to express solidarity with the SUP over the attack that also left one of its candidates and his brother wounded.
Speaking at the camp, the leaders said that the killing of Dr Leghari was aimed at keeping Sindhi nationalists from parliamentary politics and sabotaging their movement. They slammed the Hyderabad police for failing to arrest the culprits. They appealed to the Sindh Rangers and the judiciary to take notice of the murderous attack and help the affected families in lodging FIRs without any pressure.
