President approves appointment of judges

ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain on Wednesday confirmed and extended the services of 12 judges of the Lahore High Court (LHC) and approved appointment of nine judges of the Sindh High Court (SHC).

“On a summary moved by the Senate, the president has approved the prime minister’s advice about confirmation/extension of service of following additional judges of the LHC,” said a notification issued by the presidency.

The judges whose services have been confirmed are: Justices Arshad Mahmood Tabassum, Mohammad Tariq Abbasi, Mohammad Masood Jahangir, Sadaqat Ali Khan, Ali Akbar Qureshi, Qazi Mohammad Amin Ahmed, Shahid Karim and Mirza Viqas Rauf.

A one-year extension was approved in the services of Justices Khalid Mehmood Malik, Mushtaq Ahmad, Masud Abid Naqvi and Mohammad Iqbal.

President Hussain approved the appointment of nine additional judges of the SHC for one year. They are Ghulam Qadir Leghari, Abdul Ghani Soomro, Mohammad Iqbal Maher, Khadim Hussain M. Shaikh, Zulfiqar Ahmad Khan, Mahmood A. Khan, Mohammad Karim Khan Agha, Anwar Hussain and Mohammad Faisal Kamal Alam. In another order, the president approved the appointment of Justice Ashraf Jahan as a judge of the Federal Shariat Court for two years.
